My Biggest Challenge as an SDR (and Leader): Embracing the Unknown

One of the most significant challenges I faced early on as an SDR—and even later as a leader—was the feeling of not knowing what I was doing. Whether it was navigating the complexities of outbound sales, building a team from scratch, or implementing new strategies, there were countless moments where I felt uncertain and overwhelmed.

It’s easy to think that asking for help might make you look weak or incompetent, but in reality, asking for help is a sign of strength. 🌱

One thing I’ve learned, and something that Simon Sinek articulated so well in a recent podcast, is that nobody succeeds alone. As Simon said, "I don’t know" are the three most powerful words an entrepreneur—or anyone—can learn. The truth is, we don't have all the answers, and we don't need to pretend that we do.

Here are a few things I’ve picked up along the way:

🚀 1. It’s OK to Not Know Everything: None of us were born with all the skills required to succeed. Asking for help when you're unsure is not a weakness—it’s a chance to learn and grow. The best SDRs and leaders know when to lean on their team.

🤝 2. Build a Support Network: Whether you’re new to a role or growing into a leadership position, having trusted colleagues or mentors who can offer advice is crucial. Don’t be afraid to lean on those around you. They’ve likely been in your shoes before.

🗣 3. Be Transparent: It’s okay to admit when you're struggling. The more open and honest you are about your challenges, the more likely others will be willing to offer their support and insights. Vulnerability can build trust.

🔥 4. Learn from the Experience: Every time you ask for help, you’re building a stronger foundation for the future. Whether it's learning new tools, understanding better strategies, or just gaining confidence, every ask is an opportunity for growth.

So as you head into the weekend, here's something to think about: What would asking for help open up for you?

Happy Friday, everyone! Let’s embrace learning, lean on each other, and keep growing—both as SDRs and as leaders. 💪
